I haven't been following this thread very closely, but for a
spell-checker you might want to look into Buckwalter's morphological
analyzer if you haven't already.  Some doco on it is at

The source code is available somewhere on the web, but I haven't been
able to find out where.  If I come across it I'll pass it on.
