Re: arabic-linux

Salam Ibrahim,

Sorry for the late reply, I am busy on some professional projects and
between two trips. Thanks for your interest, we are now working on some
developments, and we are in the process of gathering the little forces
that are interested in Arabization of software. You might be interested
in Aunyx and subscribe to the general mailing list (low traffic don't
worry:)).

We need people who are somehow autonomous. Where do you think you can
help? Translation? Development?

Note that we are Arabizing in the spirit of making things as general as
possible, so our non-Arab brothers who write using Arabic-derived
alphabets can benefit from it too. For example, Akka is already adapted
for Farsi use, provided a keymap and a font is given (the default font,
position-independent glyph, is a superset of ISO-8859-06 and a subset of
Mac Arabic, which includes Farsi letters, except that gaf is drawn the
non Egyptian, Arabic way, i.e. a qaf with three dots, instead of a kaf
with a parallel line). You can read Farsi texts written in Mac Arabic
for example without any change.

Salam,
Chahine
