ok lets say for exemple 'virtual keyboard'
what would be the right arabic translation ?
لوحة مفاتيح خيالية ؟؟؟
the keyboard exist and not imaginary (its not 'not real')
but the keyboard exist virually افتراضيا
لوحة مفاتيح إفتراضية
imaginary = in someone imagination =خيالي
virtualy = in virtual world = إفتراضي

respect;

from www.dictionary.com
vir·tu·al   Audio pronunciation of "virtual" ( P  )  Pronunciation Key  (vûr ch- l)
adj.
  1. Existing or resulting in essence or effect though not in actual fact, form, or name: the virtual extinction of the buffalo.
  2. Existing in the mind, especially as a product of the imagination. Used in literary criticism of a text.
  3. Computer Science. Created, simulated, or carried on by means of a computer or computer network: virtual conversations in a chatroom

وهمي=a product of the imagination, just like a fata morgana(سراب)
افتراضي is derived from افترض, a programmer takes some settings that he يفترض are the most common and by that making them افتراضي=default.

I agree that افتراضي isn't very right for "defaults" but alas, the big players have made it the official translation for as far long i can remember... changing a word that is already widely used is not good as it breaks standards.
