Re: Debian Installer?

Hello Ayman:

As Nadim suggested. I should have all important discussions on the list and I agree. Therefore, here is what I know:

1. There is a guy who did the patch for slang (used by ncurses which is inturn used by Newt). The patch is a one liner apparantly and does the bidi necessary for hebrew using fribidi. Here is the link to that :

http://www.arabbix.org/~anmar/slang_bidi/

2. The patch mentioned above uses fribidi. There is a problem with respect to arabic as it does not support shaping in the current version of fribidi. I recommend you use minibidi by Ahmand Khalifa. You can find it on arabeyes under :

http://www.arabeyes.org/project.php?proj=Adawat

Try and change the patch to use minibidi and we should be in business. Please keep in mind that this patch is a simple hack to get the text to properly render. this is not a locale nor a complete switch of the TUI from right to left.

Let me know if you have any more Qs.

Thanks

Anmar

Approximately a week or so ago Ayman Negm (aka XSnack) noted on IRC
that he's looking into a patch to curses/slang/?? to add Bidi/Shaping
(he noted that he has resorted to lots of trial-n-error), I've also
heard that there is a patch already floating about but its author is
hot-n-heavy into finals at the moment (sorry, I can't access my other
machine to pull down the necessary info).

I am still using try and error method :(

Ayman, you out there ?

Yes I am there, sorry my family move to Egypt and I have to recover my
system after hardware problem. Now I have more questions than answers, but I
will continue as soon as I am finished with my real life stuff.

All these details can (and should) be gotten and coordinated from the
folks on #debian-boot (irc.freenode.net).

I think we should solve this by our own, because no one from other
nations is interested in Arabic ;-)

Any help is appreciated
