De-mystifying the Core team

Salam,

Since the discussion the 'Focus' thread is touching on several issues, I
thought I would bring Arabeyes' charter to the attention of those who
have not had a chance to go through it.
  http://www.arabeyes.org/download/documents/about/charter-ar.pdf

Please note article 11 and 12.

A short-coming in the charter is perhaps its vagueness with regard to
what necessitates the addition of new members. This item has been on the
agenda for a few meetings but has yet to reach high priority (since we
believe there are more important issues right now).

Through 'core's existence, 2 members left -- one was removed and the
other left at his own will. So, the team has been dynamic to an extent.
The only members who have remained in the group since its inception are
Nadim and myself.

If someone feels that they should be in the 'core' group, they should
contact us and make a formal request (contact (at) arabeyes dot org).
The 'core' group would then bring the subject up in a meeting and
discuss it. However, it should be noted that since core was created, no
one has made such a request and members are usually nominated and then
asked to join. This does not mean that it is the way things will always
be done -- it's just how it's been.

By no means is 'core' meant to be some elitist group. It is simply a
means to manage the overall project while giving individual projects
freedom to operate with great autonomy.

Mohammed Elzubeir
