Re: Samba Arabic support

Salam Munzir:

Well this is a completely different thing that what I thought you are doing. You are using Windows XP as the server and the Linux box as the client. I have never tried that... but I am sure there is a way.

If you tried smbclient and it did not work, then try smbmount. the kernel module for that even lets you choose the NLS to use.. I am not sure if utf-8 is there.. check it out.

wish you the best of luck

Samba 3 supports Unicode on filenames. I tried to view my Arabic filenames in a windows share but failed to do it. I also failed to find a good explanation of the procedure. If any one can do it, i will appreciate it. Or else we need to file a bug. Any experience here?

You might want to give more information here. For example, I run a Samba
server at our office and we do about 95% of our work in Arabic. Windows
clients can read/write Arabic filenames just fine on the Samba share. I
used to run Samba 3 and downgraded to 2.2.x (reasons unrelated to Samba
itself) and Windows clients still have no issues with Arabic filenames.
