We had a long discussion about this topic (and thus the email) during
our weekly 'core' meeting (we'll start posting the meeting notices/times
on this list to see more people join us to listen to what is being said
and to get more people involved -- all these notices are currently on
our 'core' mailing-list btw). My suggestion (again this is simply a
suggestion and is meant to further engage people) is to,
1. Update our global list of things that need to be done and/or things
that are still open and/or pending. For instance,
+ Arabic inclusion into emacs
+ Quran data files
+ Unified Arabic LUG
+ Font completion and corrections
+ Bidi and inclusion of shaping
etc
etc
Please don't reply to the above list, it's only meant to show what I
mean by the list.
2. I also suggested that we need to assign active people to items so that
they take ownership of them (the assignment being done either randomly
and/or people will vie to take on certain things). Again, the problem
(from my point of view) is that we seem to be finding all the
problems/issues, but we are not following through with the issue to get
it completely resolved and so we (as a group) tend to find problems,
point them out, suggest something and move-on (while we need to
completely close on issues and resolve it one way or another).
These were my suggestions and I even volunteered to get the list mentioned
above created and updated (which I'll do in anyways so that maybe it will
lead to something that Anmar suggested - 'a single complete progress page').
What do others think (don't simply say "yeah/no" - give us more feedback and
be as critical as you want) ? This is your chance and opportunity to really
make a difference on how this organization functions and moves forward.
Salam.
- Nadim
