I agree, it's a play off between getting the bug fix out there, and not 
introducing more bugs (which is very easy to do, of course).

It seems fine now here (on my machines) but I don't get much feedback from 
those downloading it so.... well, I think it's fine. Is there a real need 
for a global variable at all - it does lead to hard-to-find bugs sometimes?
