Re: Need help with rendering bug

Let me add few more things ( I think Oibane already gets most of it)

1. On the Firefox rendering engine.
Firefox (and probably thunderbird) uses an original rendering engine.
Konqueror uses Qt, gedit and katoob use pango.

Yes. Firefox uses it's own rendering engine, but unfortunately not very good. IMHO, pango is the best (for opensource). Unfortunately for all of us, the best arabic rendering engine so far, IMHO, comes from MS (there are 2 types of renderer). I don't have access anything from Adobe, though. OpenOffice uses another rendering engine from IBM (forgot the name).

2. Firefox vowel marks and fonts. For many fonts, firefox disconnects Arabic letters at vowel marks. (sample image http://www.k2.dion.ne.jp/~oibane/aonl/en/browser.htm ) Only exceptional free fonts which are shown correctly I know are * mry_KacstQurn and DejaVu *. http://mrykacstqurn.wikispaces.com/ http://dejavu.sourceforge.net/

Thanks for mentioning my font here. Anyway, this comes back to font
design. I think the font uses GSUB and GPOS table are ok, but there
are some font uses old MS table for arabic (forgot the name), for
example, traditional arabic that comes with XP. I think these type of
font are not well supported.

One more thing that Oibane did not mentioned is about justification.
Firefox simply can't do full justification of arabic text. (which IE
and word can do reasonably)

Regards.
