Workshop on The Future of Open Source Software
Riyadh Intercontinental Hotel

The Saudi Linux Group and National IT plan invite you to submit an
abstract for a presentation at The Future of Open Source Software workshop to be held
on January 13, 2004, in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
About the workshop:
This workshop aims at increasing the awareness of open source software
and their potentials in the region and Saudi Arabia in particular. Open source
software (OSS) has gained acceptance in many cases at the enterprise level as well as the
governmental level. The workshop will present the experience of local and
international companies in adapting OSS (such as Linux and Apache) in their strategies. In
addition, examples of governments support of OSS will be discussed. The workshop will give the
opportunity to specialists and decision makers to discuss the future of IT in Saudi
Arabia and the role OSS will play in this future.
Audience:
The workshop is targeted at decision and policy makers, such as IT
centers in the government sector as well as private sector. Software developers will
find this workshop useful to explore the potential of developing their software for OSS
environments.
Workshop Topics:
Topics of the workshop include, but are not limited to:
1. Introduction to OSS, their benefits and how they can be utilized.
2. Experiences of other government in promoting OSS in their countries.
3. OSS Security.
4. Local case studies.
5. OSS and the economic development in SA.
6. OSS Arabization.
7. OSS and IP.
Workshop language:
Arabic language is preferred. Live Arabic translation will be provided
for those who cannot present in Arabic.
Submission:
Please send your submission to foss2004 at linux dot org dot sa no later than Dec.20, 2003. Your
submission should include your name, address, e-mail, a biographic sketch and an
abstract of the presentation. The abstract should be less than one page in length and
should include an outline of the presentation. Direct company or service advertisement
will not be accepted.
