Many on Arabeyes here are new to the free software world, so I thought this
note might interest some in terms of culture.
Richard Stallman (also known as RMS) who just posted about Emacs-bidi on the
Arabeyes Developer list is the father of the GNU project. Forget about any
other "legend" of the free software world, the GNU project is THE project
that makes it possible to have free open source systems, the project without
which the Linux kernel would be a useless piece (the project is born well
before Linux btw) and *BSD systems would probably be very incomplete
compared to what they are today to say the least. Think the GPL/LGPL
licenses, or Emacs, GCC and many other both vital and less essential pieces
of software that you use daily. The more experienced among us might also
want to give the GNU/Hurd a try, it's GNU's official OS, which is still
experimental but is technologically superior to more common free OSs.
So you have here a living maker of software history (and future - you can
take that quite litteraly).
