Salam,

After seeing how the Arabeyes has progressed throughout the last couple yea=
rs+,
we have had some interest from some private investors to take over the
project.

Starting from next month, the project will be Closed Source and hand over
its assets to the new investor (who has asked to remain anonymous at this
time). All work that has been done so far will remain Open Source and anyone
can continue to work on. However, further development will be closed source.

We thank you all for your hard work and efforts in making this project such
a success.

Thank you.

I don't agree this approach, unless you give us more explaination.
closing the project, will slow down the arabization process for open source
systems. and no one will be interested for none GPL license software.

What? Why is this? What's the problem? This is really a bad news :((( I
won't agree at all with this. Please give us more information on the
reasons for this!!!
I sacrificed my job, for the sake of helping in Linux Arabization and
spend all my time trying to improve my skills just for the sake of
helping Linux and Arabic spreak around the Arabian countries.... :(

Can't we do anything about it? If it needs more funds, maybe we can take
it. If it needs time, we can save more time for it, but changeing the
approach to CLOSED-SOURCE this way is KILLING!!!

I almost had a hard-heart-arrack when I read the email!! Please don't do
this to us...
Even if we (myself at least) didn't contribute well, but at least we
tried our best, and still I would try my best to keep it going.

Please, Mr. ElZubeir give us more information about this.. and let's all
decide as we do usually.

regards,
Ossama Khayat

Salam,
First of all I wish you good luck.
Although I am not an active member of Arabeyes but I
think making the project as a closed source is not so
good for teh community specially for Arab world. You
will lose lot of developers and may be projects. Look
at what some open source people are doing when they
are supported by companies they keep their designs
open and find another way for companies to get back
their investiments. May be support, adding extra
features or so.
I hope I am not bothering anyone but this is my
opinion.

Best regards,
Jamil Khatib

:))) Really, I was just kidding then :)

Actually, the first time I read it I was really so shocked specially
that I already had a shock when I read an article about a Linux hacker
converting to Windows XP at Distrowatch's site
(http://www.distrowatch.com/dwres.php?resource=review-winxp)
but then ofcourse it was al an April Fool :)

Thanks and I hope it always stays as Open Source not matter what we have
to do for it to be.

May Allah bless you all,
Ossama Khayat

OK, it was obvious that this is a joke ! at least this is what occurred to
me
when I read the post :-)
Now being frank, do you think that Arabeyes-core have the right to do such a

thing ? NO, if Arabeyes decided to go close Source we will Sue it (oh I will

Sue my self!:-) )

Now please remember that most of the efforts made here are GPL, Duali is
BSD,
and VIM is GPL-compatable.. so the source code, and translation files, and
everything that we are working on, and the fruits of your efforts are really

Owned by you, and your neighbor, and you cousin, everyone :-)
So, such thing won't happen, because it can't happen ! :-) I You own the
fruit
of Arabeyes members efforts as much as everyone, including the founders of
Arabeyes..

So Take your breath, and thing about benefits of your work with Arabeyes,
and
what you've do if this joke was not a joke, do we really need Arabeyes ?

Yours
Isam Bayazidi
