Re: Wordlist in Wiktionary

Well.. basically they are 2 different licenses, and it isn't possible to have the GPL Wordlist put into the GFDL Wiktionary because the 2 licenses do not allow freely re licencing or moving the content between the different licenses, approval from authors or the copyright holder is a must.

I think that having such great effort as the Wordlist used for the Wiktionary will be great.. specially that it will be part of the New project "Ultimate Wiktionary" which aims to be a semantic/relational system so the input from Wordlist will be used to give an Arabic translation for similar words in all languages (ie. if Cat (en) is قطة (Ar), and Chat (fr) is Cat (en) then قطة (Ar) is Chat (Fr) and the other wy arround).. Ofcourse the system is more complex than this.. but basically the input from the Wordlist will be of great importance, so to have Arabic from Day one in this new project..

If it is needed to contact each contributor in the Wordlist and the get the approval I am willing to do it.. I really think that it will be a great container and use for the great efforts spent on the Wordlist.

I did a quickie search to compare GPL vs. GFDL and there are views all over
the map - could someone in the know tell us the difference ?  Isam, could you
ask Gerard for his view on why GFDL but not GPL.  We've always thrived to
work under GPL as much as possible, but we need to continue to consider the
overall benefit to mankind at large given we don't go down the wrong ally.

Salam.
