Try two things:
1. Change to the directory where the files you want to remove are before.
2. cvs commit path/to/file/filename.pot instead of a plain 'cvs commit'.
This is odd, but I am usually in the same directory of the files I'm removing,
so I have never experienced this behavior.

I tried both suggestions and both of the work just fine. After reading the cvs
man page Iunderstand the reason. "cvs commit" searches only the current
directory for changes. If you want it to search the subdirectories, the the -R
switch most be used.
