Re: Zekr 0.4.0 final release

Salam,

 1. What license is the project under (and I'm not talking about its data
files rather its Java components, etc). I downloaded a couple of
packages to see what is noted within (license and/or readme or ...)
but didn't find anything regarding this topic.

A somehow detailed licensing document is here: http://siahe.com/zekr/relnotes.html

Unfortunately I'm still hesitant about a special license to protect
Quranic/Islamic resources. Any idea?

 2. Would you be interested in looking into (and possibly taking over)
Arabeyes' Quran project ? It would be ideal to have one effort that
would encompass both works instead of people replicating each others'
work not to mention that the current Quran project's maintainer is
missing (M.Yousif). At a min it would be ideal for both projects to
use the same set of data files and an agreed-upon approach XML scheme,
    etc.

The two projects are not really replication! There are some different features in each other. If there are a lot of IDEs for Java development, is it really replication? What about office applications :). These are two Quranic works, each has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example Zekr is based on Java, while Arabeyes project is an stand alone native application. This is why I don't think about merging two works.

About resource sharing, both projects use a simplified naming
structure for resources; Arabeye's uses XML and Zekr uses plain-text
for it's translations, and also the Quran text. the conversion between
two types is not really a problem, while I converted some of arabeyes
translations for Zekr resource page:
http://siahe.com/zekr/resources.html.

Another point is that which I mentioned before; Zekr is in fact a
Windows application (although it can be run on Linux, but Windows
version is more nice in looking and more easy to install), while
Arabeyes's Quran project is designed for Linux.

I believe that this could be good that some other people here,
specially someone from QtQuran project share his idea.

Best regards.
Mohsen.
