There are two variants of numerals used in the Arabic world:

1- The ones called 'Hindi' and used in the eastern part (Mashreq).
2- The ones called 'Arabic' and used in the western part (Maghreb). That is 
the one that is now used in Europe.

The Europeans got the second variant in the Middle Age from the nearest Arabic 
speaking countries, ie Maghreb and Andalucia (that's why it's the second 
variant that is called 'Arabic', even if both variants are _thought_ to have 
Indian and even Chinese(?) origin).

Yes. It should be so. The digits displayed depend on the locale, so if you are 
in a middle eastern country, you should see Hindi numerals, and 'Arabic' in 
the rest.
