Well, it may be useful to look at the commercial software before you do your
own free software. Sometimes a compatibility is needed because people are
used to a commercial soft and you need to keep a 'backward compatibility'
while the people move slowly from the commercial to the free (think about
OpenOffice and MSOffice for ex).
