After a bit of hair-pulling, I was fortunate enough to recently be able
to add the Arabic meta-combining abilities (also termed "complex character
handling") to allow for the display "LAA" and its sisters as apposed to
seeing the odd combinations of LAM+ALEF :-)
Help yourselves in downloading the patch and/or the modified files at the
following URLs,
http://www.arabeyes.org/download/external/vim/arabic_shape60.patch
http://www.arabeyes.org/download/external/vim/arabic_shape60.tar.gz
Note: the patch (and files) are against VIM-6.0 vanilla; once 6.1 is
released the patch and files will be reworked to mimic the current
blessed release. This will continue until the patch gets integrated
into VIM's main trunk :-)
For further info/directions/how-tos, please read

Regards & Enjoy...
