Well, here are the ones I have used/found:
Kontour (http://freshmeat.net/kontour)-
Kontour (formerly known as KIllustrator) is the vector drawing
program for KOffice. The aim of the Kontour project is the
development of a freely available vector-based drawing application
similiar to Corel DrawTM or Adobe IllustratorTM. Kontour is part of
the KOffice package.
TuxPaint (http://freshmeat.net/tuxpaint) -
Tux Paint is a simple and entertaining drawing program geared
towards young children. It has a simple interface, sound effects,
and a cartoon character (Tux, the Linux penguin). Along with
drawing brush strokes, lines and shapes, you can also enter text
and place "rubber stamp" (or "sticker") images on the picture. Tux
Paint is extensible, and could be useful in an educational
environment (such as a grammar, elementary, or grade school). It's
portable across numerous platforms, and runs well even on slower
systems like the Pentium 133MHz.
KPaint (http://apps.kde.com/na/2/info/id/498) -
KPaint, part of the kdegraphics package, is a simple bitmap paint
program.

Isn't that a little bit redundant? There are already many KDE/QT-based
alternatives that allow for more usability/beauty and i18n. Just a
comment, I find xpaint outdated and plain ugly, maybe your efforts should
be put into programs that are based on modern/pretty widget libraries.
You are right about that xpaint is too old and palin ugly, but i could not
find many futures in any other new paint programs such as using the
clipboard of the XWindows and not it's own clipboard, it is very simple and
easy to use ... I have also tried to write such a program in QT3, but i did
not had any time to finish it's basic things. if you find any qt3, Xlib or
gtk2 "not gnome" programs with these futures please tell me because i realy
need to include them in Haydar Linux.

Salam,
Is there anybody interested in Adding Arabic support to XPaint, because i
am searching right now for an easy paint program for Linux "GIMP is very
dificult for new users" and the best one i could find is xpaint.
xpaint is and old paint program but have a lot of futures and it is also
an easy program to use, if there is anyone interested in making it
support Arabic rendering then please go for it.
Haydar
