Subject: Font Issues of Central Asia
To: contact at arabeyes dot org
Greetings from Central Asia!
I am a linguist working in Kyrgyzstan. Thank you for your excellent
work. I would like to offer advice or input on making your fonts
function for the Arabic script variants of Kyrgyz, Kazakh and Uigher.
I don't have much experience making fonts, although I recently made
one based on an old Kyrgyz text for the Academy of Sciences here in
Bishkek. But I do know the issues related to these alphabets.
I am particularly keen to see an adequate, publicly available font for
the Kyrgyz Arabic script, as even the ones available in Northwest
China are deficient (and no font that I know can properly render all
of it's letters). I wrote a primer to help traders and linguists
master that alphabet, but had to modify an existing font in order to
properly display the text.
