In general, numerals change to LATIN or ARABIC numbers based on the settings of the application itself, the system, and finally the context.

In OpenOffice.org in specific, you can use only LATIN or ARABIC numbers based on OpenOffice.org settings. Though a System option is available, it didn't work for me in version 2.0.4. Not sure about 2.1.

If you open OOo, goto Tools -> Settings ... -> Language Settings -> Complex Text Layout, on the right side under General Options, the Numerals text box will have Arabic, Hindi, and System, but not context.
Based on these settings, Hindi will show the numbers as you need them, i.e. ١ ٢ etc.

I mean i just want to use the Numeric pad on the left of my keyboard to 
produce arabic numerals 
 ١ ٢

instead of 1 2 3 4 6 7 89 ....
