Abbreviating from the first letter in Arabic is problematic. Because often the 
first letter is م, ا .... Arabic is a derivative language (Root+derivations) 
unlike English or French (Radical+affixes) . Therefore it would be better to 
use the first letter of the root, ex:

مدير => دار => د
عرض => عرض => ع
غنوم => غنوم => غ
د.ع.غ

But since Abbreviations may seem strange to Arabic speakers, it would be good 
to keep the long form and then convert to Abbreviations if the open source 
culture gets more established in Arabs minds.
