I agree - all the info you note is available, yet possibly scatered.
I do share your opinion that it needs to be better organized.  The
priority as I see it with regard to what you approach first is translation
since we get the most volunteers for it (and its the high risk area
of people "fleeing" :-)  The FAQ must be updated and made more robust
and a Kbabel tutorial is needed (from the sound of it).  The coordinators
(of which we lack one) need to do a better job (and we need to set the
guidelines for them on what/how to do it) in terms of keeping a public
list of priorities as well as status on their respective webpages (a
newbie translator should have ALL the info he/she might need to get
cracking and working without touching any of us or the coordinators).

In all - I think those pages are static and should be no problem to
modify; the sooner we do this the better.  Do keep in mind that both
developers and translators do share one thing in common and that is
in the beginning of the process (ie. read this, read that, register --
all have to do that and so there is commonality there).
