Re: General Digest, Vol 43, Issue 6

Salam A.Haq

Thank you for the reply. I assure you that we will cover the cost of printing 100 thousand CD, if you guys are able to put the software package.

but lets first produce a CD with a collection of Free OpenSource applications for windows users, so they get familiar with OpenOffice, FireFox, etc. Similar to the OpenCd. Then we can release another CD with OpenSource Operating System.

What d. afif thinks?

i see you like the idea.

If you up for the task, I can start looking around on what involves making an ubuntu distro,
i.e. I'm thinking in leave ubuntu as it is (structure wise), but in fully arabic, including installer, change default theme,
add the softwares from the open CD, if d.afif allows us to do so of course.

well, take this :D, ubuntu, kubuntu, abuntu " abu intu", suits,
for now, forget the name, its a minor, but who decides on decisions?

also, the new Suse " i heard" has a crazy feature, it has this thing where you select certain criteria, and then produces a Suse distro, to the way you want it.
i.e. in minutes/mintor steps, and its a single app, being developed at the moment! still on beta though.

wassalam 3alaykum

Salam,
I'm not sure if Arabeyes has a ready Arabic Linux distro, if not, the
something should be done ;d
Atleast we can get debian/ubuntu, install the "ubuntu muslim edition" meta
package, which includes helpful collection of islamic applications, and/or
interpet it into arabic, as most of it already done!
Any suggestions?

Salam A. Haq,

I was thinking of something along the line of what Djihed Afifi has done in
his OpenCD Project http://arabicopencd.org/. i.e.:

1) OpenOffice (both in Arabic and English GUI).
2) Arabic FireFox.
3) The GIMP
4) Arabic Email Client
5) Arabic Media Player (OGG Vorbis for audio and OGG Theora for video)
6) Arabic Manuals and documentations

but an Arabeyes distribution of ubuntu is a fantastic idea.

Regards

Hassan
