gnomequran compilation question

was just wondering if someone can help me out -- i am having
trouble compiling gnomequran under slackware 8.1 -- i know its a
problem on my side (most probably with autotools) because i
compiled gnomequran with no problems on gentoo linux using
gcc3.2.

during the configure phase, it says automake-1.4 and aclocal-1.4
aren't found (so slack8.1 comes with 1.5 i believe it is) --
when i type make, it gives me a warning, rechecks everything,
and when it starts compiling, i get an error about ngajiquran.c
about open_audio previous declaration... any ideas on how to fix
this?  i installed the libquran tgz...  when i tried to compile
libquran from source, i get:

but when i insatlled the tgz, no problems but i still get errors
when trying to compile gnomequran -- namely those below.

note that i also tried to symlink automake to automake-1.4 and
same with aclocal, but when i did that, it says that libogg is
missing -- further examination of the config.log file shows that
there was a coredump somewhere in the test program for libogg
(and a whole bunch of other warnings from automake about being
treated like 1.4 when its really not...)  -- can anyone help me
with this?
