Adnčne (and ArabEyes folks),
I have made a new release of GNU FreeFont. It contains changes to the
Arabic script, that I think make it usable for display of text.
Download it at
http://ftp.gnu.org/gnu/freefont/
If you see any other problems, submit a report at
https://savannah.gnu.org/projects/freefont/
You might also consider subscribing to the freefont-announce mailing list

I moved the whole script down, so its baseline was even with the Latin
baseline. This allowed the tallest letters to be shown. However, in
Windows, I see still that some of the lowest letters are cut off.
Comparing with other fonts, I see that these low letters are not drawn
with such low descenders as in FreeFont. I'm not sure what to do
about this.
I also added tables for the alif-lam ligatures and the positional
replacements required by Arabic.
Let me know what you think!
