Here is a little report on the status of the Arabic translation of the
Debian project. As you know, we are intending to translate all that
is possible on Debian.org's website, but also the documentation, the
templates of Debconf, ...

Until today, we've being concentrating on the po files provided on
Debian's website's CVS and the main pages (index, Sarge release
announcement).

Unfortunately, the pages are in wml (thewml.org) and are hard to be
non-manually converted into po files.

Because of this pain, we'll only try to keep up-to-date at least for the
big announcements (Debian-l10n's teams usually translate directly from
wml files, but that is not well-adapted to our effort).

On the other hand, there is much to do translating po-debconf templates,
which are easy to access and integrate to our CVS, and a friendly way
for beginners to start translating for Arabeyes and Debian.

The effort has already started, as you can see on
http://www.nl.debian.org/intl/l10n/po-debconf/ar

But we have to keep it up-to-date and go on.

All the coordination thing will be on
debian-l10n-arabic at lists dot debian dot org, to avoid the pollution of
doc at arabeyes dot org, but there will obviously be regular reports here, as
this effort remains completely an Arabeyes project, which is under the
control of Ossama, also member of the QA Team.

In the CVS, we now have an incomplete ar.po file for popularity-contest,
whose last translator is Abdulaziz Al-Arfaj. Abdulaziz, do you have the
time to complete the translation (2 fuzzies, 2 untranslated), or should
it be reassigned?

Some other file are incomplete, I'll commit them as soon as possible,
also add other files which are not yet localised in Arabic.

If you want to help, do not hesitate to join
debian-l10n-arabic at lists dot debian dot org (see
http://lists.debian.org/debian-l10n-arabic), and raise your hand there.

Also join us on #arabeyes (on irc.freenode.net).

We (Ossama or me) will then assign you files to begin with.
