Here is how you can read and write arabic with KDE:

1. Start kde and open the Control Center.
2.Go to Peripherals and choose Keyboard.
3.Check the checkbox labeled "Enable keyboard layouts".
4.Choose Arabic from the list named "Additional layouts".

---- Now you will see a flag in kde panel at the bottom of the screen.
---- When you press this flag it turn in the arabic flag, now you have
---- the arabic keyboar layout active.
---- Now you need the fonts to be able to really see and write arabic.

0.Download and unpack the next file in you home directory:
http://sunglasses.home.dk3.com/fonts.tar.gz (1,6 MB)
It contains some fonts that supports arabic. If you have windows installed you
can get them from their too.
1.Start kde as root and open the Control Center.
2.Go to System and choose Font Installer
3.In the "Install From" list, go to the directory were you have your fonts.
4.Select the fonts you want to install.
5.Pres install, and after installation press Apply at the right end of the
screen. Answer yes to the message box that appears next.
ps. If you can't see the directory where you have put the fonts, go to the
Settings tab of the Font Installer and choose Advanced in the box labled "mode".

----- Now you can go to the last step, and that's configuring Kbabel (or any
other editor you use) to use the new installed fonts:
1.Start Kbabel.
2.Go to Settings -> Configure Kbabel.
3.Click the "Edit" Icon, go to the Fonts tab and choose one of the fonts you
installed and click Ok.

You should now be able to read and write arabic with kbabel.
ps. Remember than when you want to write arabic you need to press the flag at
the bottom of the page, so that it turns in the arabic flag.

Yours,

Usama
