If i remember right:
Qt looks for the LC_ALL then LC_CTYPE then LANG
just incase your LANG is ar_EG and the LC_CTYPE is en_US, what's gona happen ??

All the stuff is in "qtextcodec.cpp"
I really don't understand the rest of the email !!!!
