Okay, I'm done with the autotools stuff. I got rid of all the extra unnecessary files (not sure why I need config.h.in there, but I put it back since autoheader complained). It's essentially an empty file. I later saw there was an 'autogen.sh' file. I'm not a big fan of shell scripts to drive autotools (prefer simple Makefiles) but I left it there until the author decides which way to go.
