I believe Behdad (or was it Roozbeh) were looking along those lines
(if memory serves - it was noted in passing on one of the xfree86 lists).
Since both are on the list (I hope ;-) you might want to coordinate
with them (certainly keep the discussion here so we could all learn
something :-).  I'm not sure that much had been accomplished in that
area (and its a great place to get into - its one of those fundamental
places that opens many doors all at once), but I do remember a mention
that it was being looking into it due to interest and curiosity.

Not much help (I know :-), but its a start -- welcome aboard.
