I'd suggest sticking to the *-arabeyes-1 font file (since 10x20 will
give you problems due to name collision with pre-existing font files
which in turn will require you to play with font-path precedence - not
worth the headache).

As for the problem you describe, make sure that you run the following
'xset' commands,

  $ cd MY_FONT_HERE
  $ mkfontdir
  $ xset fp+ MY_FONT_HERE
  $ xset fp  rehash

where MY_FONT_HERE is the path to the directory in which "fonts.dir"
resides which itself contains the *-arabeyes-1 font file (for more
info read in detail the README included in the arabic vim patch).

To further verify the existence of the font path/file, run

  $ xset -q

and note the "Font Path" section, the MY_FONT_HERE path should be
listed (when in doubt 'man xset')

If that doesn't help, mail me privately...

Salam.
