The debate on "linuxPakistan.net" is outdated. Recently, the Director of CRULP (www.crulp.org) has confirmed the release of the "Nafees Web Naskh" font under GPL, to facilitate its distribution with GPL'd OSS. This font was always open-source with a liberal license. The other licesnse also remains valid for non-GPL uses. The GPL announcement is here:
