Unicode 4.1 adds 30 additional extended Arabic letters mainly for the languages
used in Northern and Western Africa, such as Fulfulde, Hausa, Songhoy and
Wolof. In the second half of the twentieth century, the use of the Arabic
script was actively promoted for these languages. Characters used for other
languages are annotated in the character names list. Additional vowel marks
used with these languages are found in the main Arabic block.
