half ttf fonts question

salam ala man itaba3al huda,
hope everyone is doing well.  i have a question - i was trying
to setup the arabic fonts so i can get the Quran application
working - i installed the really old fonts from off of langbox's
page -- and then i installed the fonts that came with the vim
arabic patch.  so i ran the Quran application and got arabic,
but it looked pretty bad.  so i was told to install the true
type font server and the tahoma font -- so i proceeded to do
this... and its installed, but when i run the Quran application
now, i get a few arabic letters, and a few trash letters - so
like it would say alif lam <random trash> seen for al-nas for
example.  and the arabic font is still the messed up font.

arabic still works in vim, and in galeon/mozilla/etc (although
the web font is really small sometimes, and its hard to read and
sometimes some characters it doesn't know and replaces them with
some weird symbol).

and also, the true type fonts work because i can select them in
galeon...

i am running slack8.1 -- and :

-ttf-tahoma-bold-r-normal-bold-0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1
-ttf-tahoma-medium-r-normal-regular-0-0-0-0-p-0-iso8859-1

meaning that they are installed... and

any ideas?
