So far some 36 papers have been proposed and accepted, on subjects
ranging from mediaeval Arabic block-prints to the development of digital
type-styles in the 21st century. Printing in Arabic, Armenian, Greek,
Hebrew, Kurdish, Persian, Syriac, Tatar and Turkish will feature, and
locations include Britain, Egypt, France, Germany, Iraq, Italy,
Kurdistan, Lebanon, Malta, Morocco, Palestine, Sudan, Syria, Tatarstan,
Turkey, Turkistan, USA and Zanzibar.
Further offers of papers are still welcome: the deadline has been
extended to 15 February 2002.
The Exhibition will be a major showing of rare, significant and
historically important printed materials gathered from major
collections, with sections for Armenian, Arabic, Coptic, Hebrew,
Persian, Turkish, and a special display of early newspapers. There will
also be a room allocated to demonstrations of the latest programmes and
applications of digitised "typography" in Middle Eastern languages.
