Problems compiling gnomequraan

I compiled gnomequran (finally) after having to use --disable-vorbistest (don't know why actually, it is on my system). Anyway, when run gives

[root at localhost gnomequran-0.2]# gnomequran
gnomequran: error while loading shared libraries: libspeex-0.99.so: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory

Although, locate libspeex gives

/usr/local/lib/libspeex-0.99.so
/usr/local/lib/libspeex.so
/usr/local/lib/libspeex.la
/usr/local/lib/libspeex.a

?! Any help
