It's a well known problem in Qt. When the application is busy with something
else, the screen can not be redrawed.
To solve it, just add "qApp->processEvents();" after where you made some
changes to the screen. by example in the end of method void
I have Qt 3.0.5 here running. "qApp->processEvents();" solves the problem

This seems to me a problem with Qt because I reproduced this problem only
after I used Qt 3.0.5.
Can you try Qt 3.1? it works for me.
